MASSACHUSETTS ENVIRONMENTAL ENERGY ALLIANCE
ENVIRONMENT COMES FIRST

Notes: The DOER biomass report states it requires 13,000 tons of fuel to generate one MW of power, so that a 50-MW plant like Russell would require 650,000 tons of fuel; we report the fuel amounts from biomass plant proposals, although they are likely underestimates. The carbon dioxide emissions value for Russell is that reported in the Environmental Notification Form and corresponds to the higher fuel number, although the Environmental Impact Report subsequently reported a lower fuel number of 510,000 tons.

Abbreviations: tpy = tons per year; gpd = gallons per day; CO = Carbon Monoxide; NOx = Nitrogen Oxides; HAPs = Hazardous Air Pollutants; CO2 = Carbon Dioxide; bn = billion; mil = million; cf = cubic feet; gal = gallons; Mwhr = megawatt-hour; lb = pounds

* Russell Biomass plans on including 25,000 - 50,000 tons of pallets as fuel, according to the air permit.

** size of Tamarack plant will be between 30 and 50 MW. Few details are known about this project.

† CO2 emissions estimated based on emissions ratio of PVEC gas/diesel plant

† †  Mt Tom Coal plant data from 2005; CO2 data from 2007.   Plant HAPs are primarily hydrochloric acid.
